Anh em thân mến,

Hôm{nl}qua, chúng tôi nhận được thông tin đau buồn từ Việt Nam về một anh em{nl}DCCT, Thầy Antôn Nguyễn Văn Tặng, 36 tuổi bị đánh đập rất dã man. Thầy{nl}bị đánh trên đường đến thăm giáo xứ Ðồng Chiêm cùng với một số anh em{nl}DCCT và giáo dân sau khi Thánh Giá tại nghĩa trang của giáo xứ Ðồng{nl}Chiêm bị phá hủy. Tình hình trở nên rất căng thẳng. Thầy Tặng bị đánh{nl}bất tỉnh bên vũng máu.

Những chi tiết về việc phá hủy Thánh{nl}Giá và đánh đập Thầy Tặng đã được đăng tải một cách rộng rãi trên các{nl}phương tiện truyền thông.

Nhà{nl}cầm quyền đã chối trách nhiệm, nhưng sự chối bỏ này đã bị các Giám mục{nl}Việt Nam, các nhân chứng và các phóng viên độc lập vạch trần. Cha Giám{nl}Tỉnh Việt Nam đã xin chúng ta cầu nguyện trong lúc khó khăn này. Ðây{nl}không chỉ là tình trạng căng thẳng đối với các anh em DCCT Việt Nam{nl}nhưng còn đối với nhiều anh chị em giáo dân, đặc biệt là những anh chị{nl}em luôn cộng tác nhiệt thành với anh em DCCT Việt Nam.

Tôi đã{nl}bảo đảm với cha Giám Tỉnh Vinh Sơn rằng tất cả anh em DCCT trên toàn{nl}thế giới và những anh chị em giáo dân đang làm việc với chúng ta sẽ{nl}liên đới với anh em Việt Nam, nhất là trong lời cầu nguyện. Chúng ta{nl}đừng quên họ trong lúc cần kíp này.

Dear Confreres,

Yesterday,{nl}we received very distressing news from Vietnam about the severe beating{nl}of one of our confreres, Brother Anthony Nguyen Van Tang, 36 years of{nl}age. He had gone to the parish of Dong Chiem to visit with the{nl}confreres and the parishioners after the destruction of the Cross in{nl}the cemetery. The situation has become very tense. Brother Anthony was{nl}left unconscious in a pool of blood.

Details of the{nl}destruction of the Cross, and the beating of Brother Anthony, have been{nl}widely reported in the media.{nl}http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/archdiocese_of_hanoi_condemns_savage_beating_of_redemptorist_brother/The{nl}Government denies any responsibility, but this denial is refuted by the{nl}Catholic Bishops in Vietnam, by witnesses, and by independent{nl}journalists. The Provincial Superior of Vietnam has asked our prayers{nl}at this difficult moment. Not only is it a tense situation for the{nl}Redemptorists, but also for many dedicated lay men and women,{nl}especially those who are active in the ministry.

I have{nl}assured Fr. Vincent, all the confreres, and the men and women with whom{nl}we work that we are in solidarity with them, especially in our prayers.{nl}Let us not forget them in their need.
